RoofQuote Check

Methodology

RoofQuote Check is a YI Media tool that makes roofing proposals easier to compare. It does not recommend a contractor.

One standardized scope

Every proposal is evaluated against the RoofQuote Check Comparison Standard: an internal residential asphalt-shingle replacement scope covering tear-off, decking terms, leak barrier locations, underlayment, starter, shingles, ridge caps, flashing, ventilation and warranties. It exists on its own — no particular contractor's proposal is needed for it to work.

Each quote is checked on its own

A single quote gets a Quote Health Check against the standard. With two to four quotes, each one is first checked independently in exactly the same way, and only then are the normalized results compared with each other. A quote's result never depends on which other quotes were uploaded.

The same rules for every contractor

The evaluation reads only the scope extracted from each proposal. Contractor names are attached for display after evaluation and never change how an item is assessed.

Products are compared by category, not brand

Shingles and components are normalized to product category and tier. A verified comparable architectural shingle from any established manufacturer is treated as equivalent and receives no price adjustment for being a different brand.

Missing information is “not specified”

If a proposal doesn't mention something, we say it couldn't be confirmed — we never assume it is excluded. Only explicit statements are treated as exclusions.

Normalized prices are estimates

The estimated like-for-like price (technically, the estimated comparable price) adds estimated costs for items below the standard, and shows a range for items a proposal doesn't confirm. Figures are illustrative and may differ from what a contractor would charge. When a cost can't be estimated responsibly, we show it as a possible extra cost with no price listed (an unpriced cost exposure) and never add it to any figure.

AI reads; rules decide

An AI document reader extracts facts and the exact text supporting them. The comparison itself is done by fixed, published rules — the AI is never asked which quote or contractor is best.

RoofQuote Check Comparison Standard

Our checklist of key roofing items used to compare quotes consistently. It is RoofQuote Check's own reference list — not a building code, government standard, manufacturer requirement or certification.

Version 1.0.0 · items currently checked

Roof materials & installation(Roofing System)

  • Shingle product

Standard architectural asphalt shingle line from any established manufacturer (or a higher tier), named by manufacturer and product. Lines in the same tier are treated as equivalent regardless of brand.

  • Starter shingles

Manufacturer-made starter strip from any established shingle manufacturer, at eaves and rakes.

  • Ridge & hip caps

Manufacturer-made hip and ridge cap shingles from any established manufacturer.

  • Underlayment

    Synthetic underlayment

Water protection(Water Protection)

  • Leak barrier at eaves

3 ft of leak barrier at all gutter lines.

  • Leak barrier at rakes

3 ft of leak barrier at rake edges.

  • Leak barrier in valleys

3 ft of leak barrier in all valleys.

Possible extra costs(Hidden-Cost Protection)

  • Damaged decking pricing

First 2 sheets included; additional sheets at a stated installed price (reference $104/sheet). Photo evidence before hidden-condition work.

Flashing, vents & roof details(Flashing & Ventilation)

  • Drip edge

New drip edge at eaves and rakes.

Warranties & contractor responsibility(Warranty & Accountability)

  • Manufacturer warranty

Named manufacturer warranty. Reference: Enhanced manufacturer system warranty (the tier above the standard limited warranty), from whichever manufacturer supplies the shingles.

  • Workmanship warranty

Workmanship warranty of at least 5 years, in writing.

Shingle lines are compared by tier using a product reference table. Lines in the same tier from different manufacturers are treated as equivalent, with no price adjustment. A price adjustment is only estimated when a product is verified to be a lower tier (for example, a 3-tab shingle). Products not yet in the table are marked “Product comparison not yet verified” and are never priced.

Scope and limits

Version 1 covers residential asphalt-shingle roof replacement only. Metal, flat or low-slope, commercial and insurance-claim estimates are not supported.

RoofQuote Check analyzes only the information contained in uploaded proposals. It does not inspect the property, verify contractor workmanship, confirm licensing, determine code compliance, or guarantee final project costs.
